Bhubaneswar. Relief and rescue work has been completed after the train accident in Balasore, Odisha on Friday evening and now efforts are on to restore rail traffic on a war footing. Meanwhile, Union Railway Minister Ashwini  (Ashwini) Vaishnav has announced a CBI inquiry into the train accident near Bahanaga in Balasore district. Ashwini Vaishnav while talking to the media at Rail Sadan, Bhubaneswar gave information about the CBI investigation.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, who is overseeing the rescue and relief operations at the accident site, explained the reason behind the CBI probe, saying, “Considering the circumstances in which the accident took place, the Railway Board has recommended a CBI inquiry into the matter.” ‘

‘Suspicion of system tampering or sabotage’
On the other hand, a senior railway official, requesting anonymity, said that such tampering with the ‘logic’ of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) based electronic interlocking system can only be ‘intentional’. He ruled out the possibility of any glitch in the system. “It could be a case of tampering or sabotage from inside or outside. We have not denied anything.

Efforts are on to contact the families of the deceased.
With the help of the state government, the Center is providing all possible treatment to the injured patients admitted in various hospitals in Balasore, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Vaishnav said, ‘Every facility is being given to the patients in the hospitals. The team of doctors is taking care of the patients round the clock. He said that the government is trying to contact the families of the deceased.

Due to this the number of dead was reduced
The Odisha government on Sunday revised the death toll in the train accident from 288 to 275 and the number of injured to 1,175. According to Chief Secretary PK Jena, some bodies were counted twice. “The revised death toll after detailed verification and a report by the Balasore District Magistrate is 275,” he said.

PM Modi had said, the culprits will get strict punishment
A day before, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the Balasore train accident site and took stock. He had said that those who are guilty in this accident will get the harshest punishment. At the same time, the opposition is constantly demanding the resignation of the Railway Minister regarding the accident. Meanwhile, recommending a CBI inquiry is considered a big decision by the Railways.
