Kolkata: The police (Police ) has made a new disclosure regarding the trainee doctor rape and murder case in Kolkata. A police officer investigating the case claimed that the person arrested for raping and murdering a doctor in a Kolkata hospital went back home and slept and the next morning started washing his clothes to destroy the evidence. However, the police have found blood marks on the accused’s shoes. He is a civic volunteer, who is not associated with R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, but often visits there.
The protest has been going on for three days
Let us tell you that on Friday morning, the body of a female PG trainee doctor was found, who was allegedly raped and then murdered in the seminar hall of the hospital. The civic volunteer was arrested in the case on Saturday. However, as the protest by junior doctors demanding speedy punishment for those responsible for the crime continued for the third day on Sunday, services at government hospitals across West Bengal remained affected.
‘Went home and washed clothes’
City Police Commissioner Vineet Goel on Sunday visited the spot for the second time in three days and held a meeting with representatives of the agitating junior doctors. He claimed that the investigation was completely “transparent” and urged people not to spread rumours. “After committing the crime, the accused went back to the place where he was staying and slept till late Friday morning. After waking up, he washed the clothes he was wearing during the incident to destroy evidence. However, during the search, his shoes were found which had blood stains on them,” the officer said. The IPS officer said they will soon launch a toll-free number for people to give suggestions or complaints.
When asked if anyone else was involved in the crime, the police commissioner said, “There is no evidence of it yet.” The officer said the police were waiting for the final post-mortem report. However, the preliminary post-mortem report said that the victim was bleeding from her eyes, mouth and private parts. She also had injuries on her left leg, neck, right hand, ring finger and lips.
Possibility of murder first
Another police officer said that the evidence found also suggests that the doctor was first murdered and then raped. The police officer said, “We are also talking to the people who were on duty from Thursday night to the next morning. CCTV footage is also being examined.” Police sources said that a team of SIT police officers along with the forensic unit collected samples from the seminar hall of the hospital on Sunday. The officer said that the police also created the scene of the incident, although the arrested accused was not present there.
Post-mortem report handed over to parents
The Police Commissioner said, “One of our senior officers has handed over the post-mortem report to the parents of the deceased doctor today. Our meeting with the students was fruitful and we feel that they are satisfied. As per their demand, we have removed an assistant police officer posted here.” Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that she will seek death penalty for the culprit. Meanwhile, Kolkata Police deployed a large number of police forces at the hospital on Sunday.
Countrywide strike likely today
The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association of India (FORDA) has supported the ongoing strike and called for a nationwide shutdown of elective services in hospitals on Monday. FORDA has informed the Union Health Ministry about its decision. FORDA demanded justice in the case of the tragic death of a second-year PG resident of RG Kar Medical College and held a meeting between all RDAs of Delhi regarding the call for a nationwide strike. FORDA said that the meeting discussed and demanded a CBI inquiry, fast track court, removal of the principal of RG Kar Medical College and formation of a Central Protection Act Committee.
