ED summons Sanjay Raut again in money laundering case,

New Delhi. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday summoned Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut for re-examination in a money laundering case involving alleged irregularities in the redevelopment of a chawl in Mumbai and financial transactions of his wife and associates. Officials gave this information on Tuesday. Rajya Sabha member Raut is in the Uddhav Thackeray camp. Raut denied any wrongdoing and alleged that he was being targeted for political vendetta.

Raut has been asked to appear before the ED’s regional office in Mumbai. Raut was questioned in this case on July 1. During the interrogation of Raut for about 10 hours, the investigating officers recorded his statement under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Raut had told reporters while leaving the ED office, “I gave full cooperation and answered all their questions. If they call me, I will be back.” Raut said he is “fearless and courageous” as he has “did nothing wrong in life”.

Earlier, the ED had recorded the statement of Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha Raut in December 2021. Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha Raut is a partner in Siddhant Ciscon Private Limited Company along with Madhuri Raut, the wife of accused Praveen Raut, arrested in the Patrawala Chawl scam case of 1034 crores and from this company Madhuri Raut gave Rs 55 lakh to Sanjay Raut’s wife without interest. It was given as a loan from which the Sanjay Raut family had bought a flat in Dadar, which has been seized by the ED.

What is Patrawala Chawl Case
Praveen Raut, said to be close to Sanjay Raut, was a director of a company named Guruashish Constructions, a subsidiary of Housing Development Infrastructure Limited (HDIL). Guruashish Construction had struck a deal with MHADA for the redevelopment of a land parcel at Patra Chawl in Goregaon, under which Guruashish Construction was to construct more than 3000 flats, out of which about 672 were to be met by the people living in Patrawala Chawl. While the rest of the flats were to go to MHADA and Guruashish.

It is alleged that the company did not construct the flats and cheated the people living in MHADA and Patrawala chawl and sold this land to other 3 builders for Rs 1034. In this deal, Praveen Raut got Rs 95 crore from HDIL. Praveen Raut transferred Rs 1.6 crore out of this to the account of his wife Madhuri Raut’s company Siddhant Ciscon Private Limited Company and then Madhuri Raut gave a loan of Rs 55 lakh without interest to the company’s partner and Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha Raut. From which the Raut family bought a flat in Dadar.
