Kallakurichi (Tamil Nadu). Following the death of a student near Kallakurichi in Tamil Nadu, angry people on Sunday torched several vehicles and pelted stones, demanding the arrest of the culprits. The police fired in the air at least twice to control the violent mob. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin appealed to the people to maintain peace and assured the people that the guilty would be punished. Stalin said in a tweet that he has ordered top officials to go to Kallakurichi. Police said that so far two people have been arrested in the case. At the same time, Kallakurichi District Collector PN Sridhar said that Section-144 has been implemented in Kallakurichi, Chinnasalem, Nainar Palayam taluks.
The protesters entered an ‘international’ school in Chinnasalem, breaking police barricades, and torched buses parked on the premises, police said. He told that some people also set a police bus on fire. He told that a total of people climbed the roof and damaged the school name board. The policemen tried to disperse the protesters, but in a short time they regrouped and ransacked.
To control the situation, the police of the surrounding districts have started gathering here. Police said a group of protesters entered the school and ransacked the school premises. Some of them took away school furniture and cupboards, broke them and set them on fire, he said. The protesters also pelted stones at the policemen. Director General of Police C. Shailendra Babu appealed to the people to maintain peace and warned the perpetrators of violence. He told reporters in Chennai that strict action would be taken against those involved in the violence.
Significantly, a 17-year-old girl student studying in a private residential school in Chinnasalem, 15 km from here, was found dead in the hostel premises on July 13. The girl lived in a room on the third floor of the hostel and is believed to have committed suicide by jumping down from the top floor. The postmortem report reportedly revealed that the student had injury marks on her body before she died.
Police have started investigation by registering a case in this regard. After the death of the student, her relatives, relatives and the people of her village Perivanasalur are continuously protesting demanding justice. He demanded the investigation of this case by the Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) and the arrest of the culprits.
