Ranchi: The Jharkhand government approved the proposal to increase the salary and other allowances of the Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition, Assembly Speaker, Ministers and MLAs by up to 50 percent. (50 percent)  MLAs will get a maximum salary hike of 50 percent, while the Chief Minister and Ministers will get a hike of about 25 percent and 31 percent respectively. This approval was given during the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Champai Soren. Confirming the decision, Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel said, “The Cabinet has approved the increase in the salary, allowances and other allowances of MLAs, ministers, Speaker, Leader of Opposition, Chief Minister and Assembly officials.” Whose salary has been increased by how much
The basic salary of the Chief Minister has been increased from Rs 80,000 per month to Rs 1 lakh, while the salary of ministers has been increased from Rs 65,000 to Rs 85,000 and the salary of MLAs has been increased from Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 per month. The basic salary of the Speaker of the Assembly has been increased from Rs 78,000 per month to Rs 98,000, the Leader of the Opposition from Rs 65,000 to Rs 85,000 and the Chief Whip from Rs 55,000 to Rs 75,000 per month.

Apart from salary, these also got approval
Apart from salary hike, allowances and other facilities were also approved. The area allowance for the Chief Minister has been increased from Rs 80,000 to Rs 95,000 per month and refreshment allowance from Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 per month. The field allowance of ministers has now been increased from Rs 80,000 to Rs 95,000 per month, while refreshment allowance will be increased from Rs 45,000 to Rs 55,000 per month. The field allowance of MLAs has been increased from Rs 65,000 to Rs 80,000 per month and their refreshment allowance has been increased from Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 per month.

Decision taken after committee’s recommendations
The decision was taken following the recommendations of a five-member committee constituted to review the salaries and allowances of the Chief Minister, ministers, Speaker, Leader of Opposition, Chief Whip and Whip. The panel submitted its report in December last year, recommending a 25 per cent salary hike for the Chief Minister and about 31 per cent for other ministers. Additionally, another committee in August last year proposed increasing the basic salary of MLAs from Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 per month and suggested increase in other allowances for MLAs.
