Chandigarh. 7 people have died due to drowning during Ganesh idol immersion in Haryana. Three people have died in Sonipat due to drowning, while four people have died in Mahendragarh. A man who had gone for Ganesh idol immersion with his son and nephew died due to drowning at Mimarpur Ghat in Sonipat. Police said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the matter is being investigated.
About nine persons who went to immerse the Ganesh idol on the canal near the village Jhagdoli on the Kanina-Rewari road in Mahendragarh were washed away by the strong current of water. Eight people were pulled out of the canal late in the night. Four of these died. Around 20-22 people had gone to the canal for immersion of Ganesh idol near Jhagdoli village of Mahendragarh. During this many of them drowned in the canal. So far 4 boys have lost their lives and 4 have been saved safely. Mahendragarh DC JK Abhir said that the rescue work is going on. Expressing grief over these deaths, Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar said that the news of untimely death of many people due to drowning in the canal during Ganpati immersion in Mahendragarh and Sonipat districts is heart-wrenching.
Whereas in a tragic incident during the immersion of Ganesh idol in Uttar Pradesh, two children died due to drowning while one died in the hospital in Unnao. These children had gone to immerse the idols of Lord Ganesha in the Ganges river. Local officials said that two children died due to drowning, while one died during treatment in Unnao. All of them had gone for the immersion of the idols of Lord Ganesha in the Ganges river in Kotwali Safipur area, when this incident happened.
