Mumbai: Due to heavy rains, (Heavy rains) the speed of local trains, considered the lifeline of Mumbai, has been halted. Train traffic has been affected due to heavy rains. There is a huge crowd of passengers at Kurla station, people are worried about going to their homes. Train tracks have turned into a river. Mumbai’s suburban train network has also been affected a lot due to torrential rains. Railway tracks in Kurla, Bhandup and Vikhroli have been submerged in water, causing delays of up to an hour on the Central Railway (CR) line. Announcements at stations have informed passengers that trains will not stop at Nahur, Kanjurmarg and Vidyavihar stations, which has increased the trouble of the people.
Mumbai Police issued warning
BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani is present in the control room and is taking stock of the rain situation in the city. Meanwhile, Mumbai Police tweeted, “IMD has issued a warning of heavy rain with thunder and lightning in Mumbai and suburbs till the morning of 26 September. All Mumbaikars are requested to stay indoors unless necessary. Please stay safe. Dial 100 for any emergency.”
Schools and colleges closed
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai till 8.30 am tomorrow. In view of this, keeping in mind the safety of the students, a holiday has been declared in all schools and colleges in Mumbai tomorrow, Thursday, 26 September 2024. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration requests Mumbaikars to leave their homes only if necessary. “The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration requests Mumbaikars to step out of their homes only when absolutely necessary,” the BMC posted on Twitter.
