Almora: A man who had killed ( body) his partner in Almora district of Uttarakhand and had absconded was arrested after 10 years while selling soup in Thane near Mumbai. Senior Superintendent of Police of Uttarakhand Special Task Force, Ayush Agarwal said on Thursday that Nagraj alias Tilakraj Singh, a resident of Pundal village in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, was arrested from ‘Paya Soup Bar’ in Thane. He said that the accused was brought on transit remand and taken to Lamgarha police station in Almora on Thursday.
Murdered with a sharp weapon
Aggarwal said that on October 14, 2014, a half-burnt skeleton was found in Lamgarha, which was identified as Gulab Singh, a resident of Pundal village in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Police investigation revealed that Gulab Singh was friends with Nagraj. Both Gulab Singh and Nagraj used to work as resin collectors in Almora and lived together. According to the police, there was a dispute between the two over something, after which Nagraj killed Gulab Singh with a sharp weapon and hid his body under grass by burning his face to erase his identity. After this, he returned to his home in Himachal Pradesh.
He also fled from his house in Mandi
The police said that after confirmation of Nagraj’s involvement, efforts were made to arrest him, but before that Nagraj fled from his house in Mandi. The police also confiscated his house, but Nagraj remained out of reach. The police said that a few days ago two STF employees were sent to Mandi, from where they got information about Nagraj being in Mumbai, after which the STF team camped in Mumbai and succeeded in arresting him with the help of the local police.
Was living under a changed name and disguise
During interrogation after his arrest, Nagaraj told that he was living under a changed name and disguise in Mumbai for the last 10 years and was working in hotels and restaurants. He told that every time he used to start working at a new place in a few days, he was working in ‘Paya Soup Bar’ in Thane’s Antophill police station area for the last three months.
