Mumbai: Just days after the NCP (Ajit faction) suffered a crushing defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, NCP leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday thanked uncle Sharad (Sharad) Pawar from the party’s foundation day stage. Ajit Pawar thanked his uncle Sharad Pawar for leading the party since its inception in 1999. Ajit Pawar said, “I want to thank Sharad Pawar for leading the party for the last 24 years, as well as thank those who have remained with it since its inception.”
Addressing a party function in Mumbai, Ajit Pawar reaffirmed the NCP’s stand of not settling for any position less than a cabinet post in the Narendra Modi 3.0 government. He said, “We have made it clear to the BJP that we will not accept any post less than a cabinet portfolio. They told us that they need to give cabinet posts to many of their constituents.” Ajit Pawar said – We are still a part of the NDA Ajit Pawar’s statement shows his distance from the BJP and his proximity to uncle Sharad Pawar. In such a situation, looking at the assembly elections to be held in the state, it seems that there can be a big reshuffle in politics in Maharashtra. However, Ajit Pawar, angry at not getting a place in Modi’s new cabinet, said, “We are still a part of the NDA.” He also claimed that the current strength of the NDA is 284 which will cross the 300 mark in the coming months. Uncle Sharad Pawar’s party has performed well in this Lok Sabha election and the NCP under the leadership of nephew Ajit Pawar managed to win only one of the four seats contested, while Sharad Pawar has won eight out of ten seats. In the election, Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar lost to sitting MP Supriya Sule in Baramati.
Ajit Pawar broke away from NCP and joined Mahayuti
Ajit Pawar broke away from the NCP founded by Sharad Pawar in July 2023 and joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government in Maharashtra by forming a new NCP. The Deputy CM said, “I can assure everyone that our ideology is based on the teachings of Shivaji Maharaj, Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Phule and Babasaheb Ambedkar.” He acknowledged that party leader Sunil Tatkare kept the NCP’s image intact by winning the Raigad Lok Sabha seat.
