Assam: The flood situation in Assam remained serious on Saturday, although the water level has started decreasing in many parts of the state. Officials gave this information. The Guwahati-based India Meteorological Department’s regional center said that moderate rain is expected at most places in Assam, while heavy to very heavy rains are forecast in some parts of Kokrajhar district.
A report released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Friday night said that seven more people have died due to floods in the state. At the same time, more than 12.33 lakh people are affected in 23 districts. The number of people who lost their lives due to floods, landslides, storms and lightning in Assam this year has increased to 106.106 deaths
Dhubri most affected
According to the ASDMA report, Dhubri district has the highest number of 3.18 lakh people affected by the floods. After this, about 1.5 lakh people in Cachar and more than 95,000 people in Golaghat are facing problems due to the natural disaster. A senior ASDMA official said, “The flood water is receding in many parts of the state. As rains have stopped in most areas, the situation is likely to improve further.” Currently, 2,95,651 displaced people have taken shelter in 316 relief camps in 18 districts.
2406 villages submerged
During the last 24 hours, the state government has provided 3,621.01 quintals of rice, 666.3 quintals of pulses, 6,266.61 quintals of salt and 11,446.82 litres of mustard oil to the flood-affected people. ASDMA said that currently 2,406 villages in the state are submerged and 32,924.32 hectares of crops have been destroyed. Floodwaters have damaged embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure in several districts of Assam. Currently, the Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat, Tezpur and Dhubri. ASDMA said that Kushiyara, a tributary of the Barak river, is also flowing above the danger mark at Karimganj. It has been happening.
