Shimla. The lone survivor of the tragic incident of temple collapse due to landslide in Summer Hill area of Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla narrated his horrifying experience on Thursday. Ram Singh, who survived, said that he was sleeping in a house right next to the Shiv Bari temple when the incident happened. He said, ‘I was on the top floor at the time of the incident. I shouted for help, then people came to save him and thus his life was saved.
Ram Singh said, “I was sleeping in a house near the temple. As soon as I woke up, suddenly there was a loud (I lost ) noise and just after that something fell on me and I was under the debris. I shouted for help and people came to save me. All the money we had got destroyed during the incident.” He has requested additional assistance from the state government as the disaster took away all his savings and he still has injuries.
“I have suffered injuries in my abdomen and I need additional help from the government. Whatever money I had saved is gone. When the tree fell after the landslide, the temple collapsed and we were buried under the debris. Then I shouted for help.” The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Thursday said that a total of 13 bodies have been recovered out of 21 people who went missing after a massive landslide in Summer Hill area of Shimla earlier this week.
Earlier, a family lost members of three generations in a temple collapse incident following a cloudburst-triggered landslide on Monday in Summer Hill area of rain-hit Shimla district. According to officials, when the Shiva temple collapsed, seven family members, including three children, were performing a havan inside.
Meanwhile, Indian Air Force officials informed on Wednesday that helicopters of the Western Air Command flew more than 50 sorties in the last 48 hours, rescuing more than 780 civilians in flood-affected areas of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.
