Uttarakhand Cabinet Meets in Champawat for First Time, CM Dhami Says Governance Will Reach Border Areas

Uttarakhand:Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired the state Cabinet’s first-ever meeting in Champawat, signalling a major focus on governance, connectivity and development in the state’s remote border regions.

Historic Cabinet Meeting in Champawat

Uttarakhand took an important step towards taking governance beyond the state capital as the Cabinet held its first meeting in Champawat district.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, was organised at the NHPC campus in Banbasa, close to the India-Nepal international border.

The move reflects the government’s effort to bring decision-making closer to people living in remote and strategically important parts of the state.

CM Dhami: Cabinet Meetings Will No Longer Be Limited to Dehradun

Chief Minister Dhami said Cabinet meetings would no longer be confined to Dehradun. Going forward, meetings will also be held in different districts of Uttarakhand.

The objective is to understand local challenges, development opportunities and regional priorities directly from the ground and ensure that these issues receive appropriate attention at the government level.

Why Border Areas Are a Priority

The Chief Minister emphasised that border regions are much more than geographical boundaries. They play an important role in the country’s security, cultural identity and overall development.

The government’s focus, he said, is to connect residents of border areas with the mainstream of development by improving infrastructure, employment opportunities, tourism facilities and connectivity.

From Border Villages to the Plains, Focus on Balanced Growth

CM Dhami reiterated the state government’s commitment to balanced development across Uttarakhand.

The government aims to ensure that development reaches both remote border villages and the plains, with local needs taken into account while framing policies and taking decisions.

Governance Closer to the People

Holding Cabinet meetings outside Dehradun is being positioned as an effort to make governance more accessible and responsive.

By taking high-level decision-making to different districts, the state government intends to gain a clearer understanding of local conditions and people’s expectations while accelerating development in areas that are geographically distant from the capital.
