What will America do now?(America)

Taiwan: China has once again come on the front foot regarding Taiwan. It had recently threatened the US. (America)  Meanwhile, once again the Chinese army has said that Taiwan’s independence means war. On Thursday, it said that it is ready to take firm action to thwart foreign intervention in support of separatist activities in the island. Chinese military spokesman Senior Colonel Wu Qian told the media that the unification of China is an irreversible trend of history and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is ready to take firm action to respond to any independence of Taiwan.

What did the Chinese military spokesman say?

Actually, the Chinese military spokesman was responding to a question asked about the pro-independence speech given by Taiwan’s new leader Lai Ching-te during his swearing-in as the island’s new president on May 20. Lai (64) is also known as William Lai. He replaced his colleague Sai Ing-wen of the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party after winning the presidential election held in January this year.

Why force should not be used

Lai was sworn in as president at a ceremony held in Taipei on Monday. China considers Taiwan a rebellious province and says it should be reunified with the mainland, even if force has to be used for this. Lai’s DPP party does not want independence from China, but believes that Taiwan is already a sovereign nation.

Took strong countermeasures

Colonel Wu said that Lai’s speech is a confession of his efforts to achieve “Taiwan independence” by force and relying on external forces. He said that the PLA firmly opposes this and has taken strong countermeasures. Wu said, “Separatist activities seeking Taiwan independence are the biggest real threat to peace in the Taiwan Strait.

Wu also said that the PLA is working on a mission to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said that it is fully prepared, highly vigilant, and ready to counter any separatist attempt for Taiwan’s independence and take firm action to thwart foreign interference.

What will America do?

Amidst all this, the Chinese army has conducted military exercises surrounding Taiwan. And on the other hand, America has come forward to help Taiwan. Therefore, now all eyes are on America as well. No one can predict what steps America will take. If any peace talks emerge, it will also be interesting to see what its terms will be. At present, Taiwan is also not backing down.
