Sh. Ashutosh Gangal, General Manager Northern Railway held a review meeting with the departmental heads and DRMs of Northern Railway. Deliberations were held on keeping focus on passenger amenities at stations like extension of platforms, increase of level of platforms, washable aprons, provision of 2nd entry, foot over bridges, Escalators, lifts facilities for Divayangjans, improvement of station building including façade etc. He also reviews the progress of mobility enhancement, developmental infrastructure works, Freight loading and safety on tracks.

Sh. Gangal emphasized on safety on tracks in particular safe train operation and minimizing the human failure, extensive monitoring of rail fractures and rail welds and said no error should be left. He asked the officers should enhance their inspection to assess the progress of works as well as train operations.
Sh. Gangal, also informed that An Intensive Safety Drive has been launched on Indian Railways for one month starting from 19.02.2023 to prevent derailments, Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD) and other types of accidents. Senior officers from  Zonal Railways and Divisions have been instructed to go to various sections, lobbies, maintenance centers, work sites, etc. and carry out thorough review of working practices to check and enforce safe operational and maintenance practices prescribed to prevent accidents/unusual incidents. Emphasis has been given on observance of signaling aspects and braking practices by Assistant Loco Pilots/ Loco Pilots; Observance of Speed Restrictions; Counselling of operators of Track Machines/Tower Wagons; Work Site protection; prevention of short-cuts etc. Officers have been instructed to spend sufficient time in the Section/Lobby/Maintenance Center/ worksite to observe the operational/ maintenance/ working practices, and interact with staff on the right and wrong practices to understand the problems being faced by field staff and provide solutions.

He instructed to maintained good record of punctuality of trains and expedites the works related with mobility enhancement and conducting drives to check the progress. He reviewed the work done over the zone in improving the maintenance standard of track, welds and removal of scrap lying near the tracks.  The GM also took stock of the tree cutting activity and removal of vegetation alongside the tracks.

He also informed that, loading of food grains & other items have steadily increased with every passing month.
