‘No Certificate Issued’: CBFC( CBFC)

‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’: Although the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’—from KVN Productions’ Kannada pan-India film *KD: The Devil*—has been removed from all platforms, the debate surrounding it has yet to subside. Released on March 14, the song generated such a massive controversy that the filmmakers were compelled to remove its Hindi version from every platform. Nora Fatehi also weighed in on the matter, expressing her satisfaction regarding the song’s removal. According to the actress, she had filmed the Kannada version three years ago; however, upon hearing the Hindi version, she had explicitly warned the filmmakers that it could potentially trigger a backlash. Now, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)      ( CBFC)  has also issued a statement regarding this matter.

CBFC Did Not Issue a Certificate
Responding to the criticism directed at it over this controversial song, the CBFC has categorically stated that it has not received any application for certification regarding this specific track from *KD: The Devil*. Furthermore, the Board clarified that content released on digital platforms is not certified by the CBFC—meaning this particular song was not certified by the Board. According to the CBFC, there is often confusion surrounding content available on digital platforms, leading people to unnecessarily drag the Board’s name into such matters, despite the Board having absolutely no involvement in them. The CBFC explicitly stated that songs, videos, or any other material released on digital platforms do not fall under the Board’s jurisdiction.

What Did the CBFC Say? Reacting to the controversy surrounding the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke,’ the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)—speaking through its Chairperson—stated: “It is hereby clarified that the CBFC has not received any application for the certification of the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from the film *KD: The Devil*. It is pertinent to note that any content available on digital platforms is not certified by the CBFC. Confusion often persists in this regard, and the CBFC is unnecessarily dragged into matters with which it has no connection. The CBFC is a responsible and accountable institution; its members approach the portrayal of women in cinema with sensitivity and have made sincere efforts to steer the discourse away from controversy and towards constructive dialogue. All inquiries regarding this specific song should be directed to the platform hosting it and to the song’s producers.”
