Neeraj Chopra: India’s Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra (Neeraj Chopra) won the gold medal at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2024 in Finland on Tuesday, June 18. Neeraj Chopra has made a strong comeback in the javelin throw event. Neeraj Chopra won the event with his best throw of 85.97m. Chopra was playing in his third event of the season and missed the Ostrava Golden Spike Athletics Meet in Czechia last month due to injury. But the reigning Olympic champion is back with a performance that will please him ahead of the Paris Olympics next month.
Neeraj Chopra’s strong comeback
Neeraj Chopra threw a throw of 85.97m in his third attempt which was enough for the reigning Olympic champion to win the gold in Finland. Neeraj started the event with a throw of 83.62 meters and maintained the lead after the first round. After the second round, Finland’s Oliver Helander pushed him to second place, as Helander threw his javelin to 83.96 meters. But the Indian player came back in the lead in the third attempt.
No other player gave competition
Neeraj Chopra threw his javelin to 85.97 meters and was completely ahead in this match. Another Finnish athlete Toni Keranen came close to Chopra with a throw of 84.19 meters, but he was 1.78 meters behind. Apart from this, no other player challenged Neeraj Chopra. Max Dehing of Germany could have been a challenge for Neeraj Chopra in this event. The 19-year-old player made headlines earlier this year when he joined the 90 meter throw club by throwing 90.61 meters. But he was not in rhythm in Finland. Out of his three valid throws, Dehing threw the best throw of 79.84 meters in the first attempt. He finished seventh out of eight players.
