Jorhat (Assam). A massive fire broke out late Thursday night in a market in Jorhat district in Assam, in which at least 150 shops were gutted. Police gave this information. Police said that 25 fire engines have been engaged to control the fire in Chowk Bazar located in Jorhat city.
According to the police, there is a possibility of fire in the shop due to short circuit. There was no report of any casualty in the accident as all the shops were closed and the owners and employees had left for their homes, police said. He said that most of the shops destroyed in the fire were of clothes and groceries.
Superintendent of Police of Jorhat district Mohan Lal Meena told that there is no information about any casualty in this incident. He said, ‘As of now we cannot say about the figure of damage, but more than 100 shops have been damaged as the place where the fire broke out is a commercial area. Fire engines have reached the area. Now the situation is under control. We suspect that the fire broke out due to short circuit.
