Gaza ceasefire proposal passed in UN( UN )

New Delhi: Amidst the Israel-Palestine war, India has taken a big step in the United Nations General Assembly  ( UN ) and has made its intention clear that India wants peace between the two countries. India voted in favor of a draft resolution in the UN General Assembly demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war as well as the unconditional release of all hostages. Let us tell you that the conflict has been going on in Gaza since the attack on Israel by Hamas, in which thousands of people have died.
Amid the Israel-Hamas war, an emergency special meeting was called in the 193-member United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in which the resolution presented by Egypt for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza was passed. 153 countries including India voted in favor of ceasefire in Gaza. This proposal was opposed by 10 member countries, while 23 members remained absent. During this, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj termed the Hamas attack on Israel as a terrorist attack.

What was demanded in the proposal
The resolution, sponsored by Algeria, Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Palestine, called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza and reiterated that all parties comply with their obligations under international law, Especially regarding the safety of citizens. The resolution also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages as well as ensuring humanitarian access.

‘Hamas attack on Israel is a terrorist attack’
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj said that a terrorist attack took place in Israel on October 7. He said that there is a huge humanitarian crisis and there has been loss of human life on a large scale. He said that India has voted in favor of the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly. He said that the situation being discussed in the General Assembly has many dimensions. There was a terrorist attack on Israel on October 7 and it is a matter of concern that many people were taken hostage at that time. He further said that a huge humanitarian crisis has arisen in Gaza and there have been large-scale civilian deaths. Most of the dead include women and children. The issue is to comply with international humanitarian law in all circumstances. At the same time, efforts are being made to find a peaceful and permanent two-state solution to the long-standing Palestine issue.

India welcomed the unity of the international community
He further said that India welcomes the unity of the international community in common efforts to address the many challenges currently facing the region. Ruchira Kamboj said, ‘Our challenge in these exceptionally difficult times is to strike the right balance. The Secretary-General has underlined the seriousness and complexity of the challenges facing the international community by invoking Article 99 of the Charter of the United Nations. Let us therefore welcome the fact that the unity of the international community is able to find a common ground to address the many challenges facing the region at this time.
Biden again warned Israel
At the same time, amid the Israel-Hamas war, America has warned that Israel is now losing international support. Joe Biden said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu needs to replace his hard-line government and ultimately Israel cannot say ‘no’ to an independent Palestinian state, as some Israeli hard-liners oppose. At the same time, Australia, Canada and New Zealand said that they support international efforts towards a permanent ceasefire and expressed concern over the plight of civilians in Gaza. The leaders of the three countries said in a joint statement that the price of defeating Hamas cannot be continued suffering for all Palestinian citizens.
