CHANDIGARH: Will the Congress, which suffered a humiliating defeat in the Punjab Legislative Assembly elections, get another setback? This question has arisen regarding the meeting of party MP Ravneet Singh Bittu with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Bittu met PM Modi on Monday, since then the round of speculation has started. This meeting is being seen as a sign of the Congress leader of Ludhiana switching sides.
This wish of PM was mentioned
Congress MP from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu says that PM met only to discuss the issues of Punjab. His close friends also denied that Bittu was joining the BJP. He said that the PM wants Bittu to fight the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab. Let us inform that since the assassination of his grandfather and former CM Beant Singh in the year 1995, Bittu is recognized as a Hindu face in the party.
Congress running in silent mode
The senior Congress leader has tweeted a photo of the meeting with the PM, in the caption of which he has written, ‘Today met the Prime Minister of the country, Honorable Narendra Modi ji and discussed the issues of Punjab’. After the defeat at the hands of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Punjab Legislative Assembly elections, the state Congress is currently in ‘silent mode’. There has been no reaction from the party regarding this meeting, although party leaders believe that there is no need to think too much about this meeting.
The party came in only 18 seats out of 77
The Congress party in Punjab is in shock after the announcement of the election results last month. Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP had defeated Congress, Akali Dal and BJP, registering a thumping victory in Punjab. The performance of the Congress was so bad that the party, which won 77 seats in 2017, could win only 18 seats this time. State Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu had to resign after the defeat. The Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly has also not been appointed yet.
Bittu is angry because of this
Ravneet Singh Bittu is considered close to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, but for some time he has been angry with the party. Actually, Bittu wanted him to be made the Chief Minister of Punjab, but the Congress had reposed faith in Charanjit Singh Channi. Bittu is considered an opponent of Channi, Sidhu and Amarinder Singh. Even though Bittu is dismissing speculations of joining the BJP, the possibility of him switching sides because of the tightness of not being able to become the CM cannot be ruled out.
