Uttar Pradesh: August 2026 brought significantly higher rainfall to Uttar Pradesh, with the state receiving precipitation well above its long-term average. The unusually wet month has placed August 2026 among the highest rainfall periods recorded in the state during the 21st century.
According to the available rainfall data, Uttar Pradesh received approximately 291.3 mm of rainfall in August, compared with a long-term average of 235.5 mm. This represents around 24% above-normal rainfall.
The rainfall figures make August 2026 one of the wettest August months recorded in Uttar Pradesh over the past 26 years. The only comparable figure during this period was recorded in 2018, when the state received approximately 293.1 mm of rainfall.
Varanasi Rainfall Breaks a 35-Year Record
Varanasi also witnessed an unusually wet monsoon season. Rainfall recorded in the district crossed long-term benchmarks, marking one of the highest August rainfall levels seen in approximately 35 years.
Available data showed that Varanasi received around 633.3 mm of rainfall, compared with an average of approximately 615.1 mm, placing rainfall levels about 3% above normal.
The strong monsoon activity during August also surpassed several recent rainfall benchmarks in the region.
