Heavy rain in Kolkata:
According to meteorologists, a low pressure area over the northeast Bay of Bengal has caused heavy rainfall in coastal areas. Kolkata recorded 247.4 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, which is more than the total rainfall (176 mm) from September 1 to September 22.
Heavy Rain Late Night
An official at the Regional Meteorological Center in Alipore, Kolkata, said, “Due to a low-pressure area, Kolkata received heavy rain late last night. This rain will continue throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday.”
Rainfall in other districts besides Kolkata
Some areas, such as Garia Kamdahari, received 332 mm of rain in just six hours, Jodhpur Park 285 mm, and Kalighat 280 mm. This unusual rainfall after the monsoon season has spread to the districts of East and West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, Jhargram, and Bankura in South Bengal. All these districts are experiencing heavy rainfall.
Heavy Rain Alert in Kolkata
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert that heavy rain is likely in Kolkata until Wednesday, while the formation of a new low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal around September 25th poses a threat of further heavy rain.
