Pune. NCP working president and MP Supriya (Supriya) Sule on Thursday said her father Sharad Pawar had quit the post of NCP president on May 2 because some people were demanding an alliance with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Supriya Sule said her cousin Ajit Pawar had kept her father ‘in the dark’ about his moves to join hands with the BJP in November 2019 and July 2023.
Supriya Sule said, “Sharad Pawar never had any plans to resign from the post of NCP president, but he was forced to do so after the Ajit Pawar-led rebel group insisted on supporting the BJP. “He was deeply saddened by their decision.” Sharad Pawar had quit the NCP president post on May 2 and took it back on May 5 following pressure from the party, while Ajit Pawar and his supporters opposed Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s plans to forge an alliance with the ruling Shiv Sena and the BJP. Had left the party on 1 July.
‘Pawar unaware of alliance with BJP in 2019 and 2023’
Responding to this in Akola, Sharad Pawar declared that contrary to speculations he never had any intention of going with the BJP, as claimed by the NCP splinter group and some BJP leaders. Referring to NCP (AP) faction minister Chhagan Bhujbal’s claims on a private TV channel, Sule said “Now from Bhujbal’s own statements, it has become clear that Sharad Pawar will not attend the November 2019 swearing-in ceremony or the July 2023 partition.” Were unaware of.”
‘Pawar never left the ideology of Congress’
Now, in his recent comment he said that Bhujbal has admitted that both the swearing-in ceremonies (November 2019 and July 2023) were done without informing Sharad Pawar. He had also ‘lied’ on his whereabouts during the July 2023 episode. Sule reiterated that Sharad Pawar never left the Congress ideology and followed his mentor, Maharashtra’s first CM YB Chavan. He made it clear to Bhujbal and other rebels that they were free to go to BJP as he would not give up his ideological stand. Sule also rejected Bhujbal’s claim that after Sharad Pawar’s resignation, he was to be made the NCP president and then forge an alliance with the BJP. Sule further said that she would never compromise with her father’s ideals, hence she refused to become the NCP chief.
