Mathura. A major accident occurred at Mathura Junction when Shakurbasti-New Delhi-Mathura shuttle EMU train derailed on platform number two. The fortunate thing was that when the engine of the train reached the platform, ( platform) the passengers sitting and standing on the platform ran away and saved their lives. However, the passengers sitting in the train had already disembarked.
It is being told that at around 10.55 pm on Tuesday night, the loco pilot was shutting down the engine and parking it, when for some reason the engine picked up speed and started running on the platform, breaking the train stopper. Seeing the engine climbing the platform, people sitting and standing on the platform ran away, but their luggage got buried under the train engine. The big thing in this accident was that there was an OHE line pole installed at some distance from the train engine’s entry on the platform, due to which the engine collided and got damaged and stopped. If there was no electric pole then it cannot be estimated to what extent the train would have run on the platform and how many people would have been hit by it. At present, there is no loss of life and the railway officials heaved a sigh of relief and have started investigating the cause of the accident.
