Women fighter pilots to be permanent

New Delhi: It has now been decided to change the experimental plan to induct women fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force into a permanent one. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted that, the Defense Ministry has decided to convert the pilot plan to induct women fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force into a permanent plan. Rajnath Singh said that, this is a proof of the capability of India’s women power and our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment towards women empowerment.

The Supreme Court had given an important decision regarding the admission of women in the National Defense Academy for recruitment in the three services. After a few months, now the Defense Ministry has taken this important decision. In 2018, Indian Air Force Flying Officer Avani Chaturvedi created history by flying a fighter plane alone. Because she was the first Indian woman who got this success.

In 2019, taking an important decision, the Indian Army started the process of inducting women into the military police. At the same time, 16 women were commissioned as fighter pilots after the implementation of the Experimental Plan to join the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in 2016.
An Air Force spokesperson said that the Defense Ministry has approved to make it a permanent plan. With this decision, the path has become easier for the recruitment of women in the army. At the same time, the National Defense Academy is set to induct its first batch of women cadets in June 2022. Apart from the Rafale jets, women pilots are also flying MiG-21, Sukhoi-30 and MiG-29 fighter aircraft. Rafale pilot Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh became a part of the IAF’s exhibition on the Republic Day parade. At present, more than 9 thousand women are serving in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
