New Delhi. Two months have passed since the Israel-Hamas war started. Israel Defense Forces are wreaking havoc in Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, a bad news came for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu seems to be in dire straits in his own country. In fact, investigation has been restarted in a corruption case against the Prime Minister ( ministers ) . According to a report in Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the hearing against the Prime Minister in the Bezek-Wala bribery case will resume in Jerusalem on Tuesday.
Due to the war, the court was on leave for about two and a half months, during which only urgent hearings were held. The court did not consider Netanyahu’s various corruption cases as urgent, so they were put on hold because of the war. The case, known as Case 4000, alleges that Netanyahu took regulatory steps to benefit Bezeq Telecommunications in exchange for favorable media coverage on the news website Walla. Walla was previously owned by Bezek.
What did Netanyahu’s ministers say?
Members of Netanyahu’s political party Likud criticized prosecutors for pursuing the case. It was said that the country is fighting a war with Hamas. At such a time all these things have no meaning. Justice Ministry minister and Likud member David Amsalem said in a post on the social media site X: ‘War? hostage? Migrants? economy? No and no… What is most important now is to engage the Israeli Prime Minister in baseless allegations and misleading platitudes. Yes, yes…you read it right. There is no reason to delay this. This is a disgrace!”
Yinon Magal, former editor-in-chief of Walla website, and Avi Alkaley, former editor of Walla News, have testified in the case. Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports that Aron Buchnik and Dotan Malichi of the Lahav 433 major crimes unit, and Securities Authority investigator Lior Shpitz of the Case 4000 investigation team are to testify before the court.
