New Delhi. Long-term Visa and OCI cards of some Indian-origin citizens residing in Canada and other countries involved in anti-India activities have been cancelled. Sources informed News18 that this action has been taken against those who are involved in anti-India activities under the guise of farmer protests. The information sharing official did not specify the total number of canceled Visa and OCI cards.
Various Indian embassies are keeping an eye on such Indian-origin citizens, as well as such Indian students who are involved in anti-India activities in other countries. A top source told News18 that Indian students studying in other countries, who are involved in anti-India activities and such anti-India protests outside the Indian Embassy premises, are being monitored by the Indian Mission.
A few dozen such people have also been identified and blacklisted. If they try to travel to India, they will be sent back to their country from there.
In December last year, India had summoned Canadian High Commissioner Nadir Patel over remarks by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other Canadian leaders on farmers’ protests. India had said that the remarks of Canadian leaders on the issues of farmers are interference in the internal affairs of the country, which India does not accept.
India’s foreign ministry had said that if this continued, it would “severely damage” the bilateral ties between the two countries.
