Violence erupted after attack on Imran Khan

Karachi. After the attack on former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the crowd took to the streets and demonstrated. After this the police used teargas and force, and made several arrests. Protests in Pakistan have turned violent after the attack on Imran. Supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) burn tires outside the Governor’s House in Lahore. Sources said gunshots were heard in Islamabad.

The protesters are raising slogans in support of Imran Khan. Sources said that many people have also targeted Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and given him names like ‘Dog’. PTI is demonstrating in all major cities across Pakistan including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Quetta and Peshawar. Sources said party supporters blocked main roads in Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Multan, Karachi and other cities. They protested at the Faizabad interchange in Rawalpindi against the alleged attempt to murder a day earlier.
Sources said that PTI workers have started gathering outside Allama Iqbal Park in Rawalpindi. Party MPs Ali Nawaz and Khurram Nawaz are also said to be present at the venue. Islamabad police are lobbing tear gas shells in the area to disperse the protesters, who pelted stones at the police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel. Sources said that the forces have arrested several PTI workers in Islamabad.

Protests are taking place at Rafiq Shah in Bahawalnagar, while in Rajanpur, supporters are staging dharnas at Chowk Allahabad, Rojhan, Fazilpur and Jampur. Party workers and supporters have gathered at Thokar Niyaz Baig where Senator Ejaz Chowdhury is leading the protest. In Peshawar, protesters have gathered at a motorway interchange. According to sources, they are raising slogans against the government and the army.

In Charsadda, PTI workers led by Provincial Law Minister Fazal Shakur Khan are protesting at Farooq Azam Chowk. Workers burnt tyres, blocked roads and disrupted traffic.
