Understand what are manifestos(manifestos) ?

New Delhi. The BJP on Monday released its manifesto (manifestos)  for the Karnataka Assembly polls, promising to deport “all illegal migrants” if the party returns to power. In this way, for the first time after the 2021 Assam assembly elections, the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC) has again come up for discussion in an assembly election. Apart from this, according to its strategy tried in the recent elections, the party has included the Uniform Civil Code in the state-centric manifesto and has talked about its implementation.

Uniform Civil Code has been the national agenda of the BJP. The party said that if it remains in power in Karnataka, a Uniform Civil Code will be implemented based on the recommendations of a high-powered committee. The party had so far avoided the issue of NRC in its manifestos for various assembly elections except in Assam. The BJP had promised to create a National Register of Citizens (NRC) and implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in its 2019 Lok Sabha election manifesto. CAA was approved by the Parliament in 2019, but it was not implemented due to lack of rules.

Big statement was given regarding NRC in 2019
In December 2019, amid protests over the NRC and CAA, the government had said that it had no intention of a nationwide NRC. The government accused the opposition parties of spreading ‘lies’ on the issue. Many Muslim groups and opposition parties termed the CAA and NRC as discriminatory on religious grounds. Political observers feel that by raising the issue of NRC, the BJP is trying to sharpen its Hindutva agenda in Karnataka.

This is an issue which has been very close to the heart of party supporters. The BJP is trying its level best to keep the opposition Congress away from power in Karnataka. In Karnataka, no party has won the elections for two consecutive terms. The BJP manifesto released on Monday said, “We will make a National Register of Citizens in Karnataka and ensure the immediate return of all illegal immigrants from the state.”
