New Delhi. The Election Commission has taken a big step amid the ongoing fight between Uddhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde over Shiv Sena. The commission has banned the use of the party’s name and symbol by both the Shiv Sena factions in the upcoming assembly by-elections to be held in Andheri East seat.
In the interim order passed by the Election Commission, it has been said that neither of the two groups will be allowed to use the symbol of ‘bow and arrow’ reserved for ‘Shiv Sena’ in the Andheri East by-election.
It said that for the upcoming by-election, both the groups will be given a list of symbols notified by the Election Commission, from which both the groups can choose different symbols. Along with this, the commission has asked both the groups to choose their symbol and give information by 1 pm on October 10.
Let us tell that the votes for the by-election to the Andheri (East) assembly seat in Mumbai will be held on November 3, the result of which will be revealed on November 6. The bypoll is being seen as the first test of popularity of the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray. In such a situation, both the factions claimed the party’s election symbol ‘Dhanush Arrow’. The matter reached the Supreme Court, which allowed the Election Commission to decide on the matter.
The seat was represented by late Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latte. Latte, who had been representing this seat for two consecutive terms, died in May this year, leaving the seat vacant. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shinde faction have fielded former Mumbai Municipal Corporation councilor Murji Patel as their candidate for the by-election. The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena is likely to field the late Latte’s wife Rutuja Latte as the candidate from the seat.
