According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, a fresh Western Disturbance can affect Jammu and Kashmir and the surrounding areas. Due to which, for the next two days, a warning has been issued for light snowfall in the plains and low-lying areas, while light to moderate snowfall in the higher areas.
Delhi’s climate
According to the Meteorological Department, today the minimum temperature in Delhi will be 8 degrees and the maximum temperature will be 25 degrees. At the same time, light fog can also be seen in Delhi in the morning. At the same time, the data of the Central Pollution Control Board shows that the air quality index of the national capital i.e. Air Quality Index remains in the very poor category. The air quality in the national capital was recorded in the ‘poor’ category with slight improvement on Thursday, while the minimum temperature settled at 8.3 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal.

Effect of ‘Mandus’
Heavy rains are expected in many parts of Tamil Nadu in view of the possibility of cyclonic storm ‘Mandus’ forming over the Bay of Bengal, passing between Sriharikota and Puducherry in neighboring Andhra Pradesh at midnight on December 9. The Tamil Nadu government has deployed 12 teams of 400 personnel from the NDRF and the State Disaster Management Force (SDRF) in a total of 10 districts including Nagapattinam and Thanjavur, Chennai and Cuddalore in the Cauvery Delta region. In these areas, a holiday has been declared in schools and colleges on Friday.

The IMD said in its bulletin that the cyclonic storm ‘Mandus’ advanced over the southwest Bay of Bengal, which is about 480 km east-southeast of Chennai and 390 km from Kariyakal. Due to the cyclone, light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry on December 9. Heavy rains are likely over adjoining South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and North Interior Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema. It is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm.
Government in alert mode
According to the weather bulletin, “It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south coast of Andhra Pradesh between Puducherry and Sriharikota around midnight of 9th December with wind speed reaching 70 kmph.” The state government has taken several precautionary steps.
