Istanbul: A powerful earthquake ( earthquake) has struck Turkey. An earthquake of 6.0 magnitude hit Turkey at 10:23 pm Indian time. The epicenter of the earthquake was at 39.14° north latitude and 28.13° east longitude, with a depth of 10 kilometers.
The tremors of this earthquake were felt in many parts of Turkey. Tremors of the earthquake were also felt in Istanbul. The administration is keeping an eye on the situation.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in Sindirgi
Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) said that the epicenter of this earthquake was in Sindirgi, Balikesir. According to initial reports, a building has collapsed in Sindirgi, but there is no confirmation of loss of life or property yet. Officials said that after the main earthquake, several small tremors also occurred, one of which had a magnitude of 4.6.
Turkey is considered a very sensitive area in terms of earthquakes. Earlier, on May 15, an earthquake of 5.2 magnitude struck Konya province in central Turkey. At the same time, a strong earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck near Istanbul on April 23. The devastating earthquakes in February 2023 caused massive devastation in the country and neighboring Syria, killing thousands of people.
Earthquake tremors in New York
Earlier, on August 3, mild tremors of earthquake were felt in an area of New York, USA. The US Geological Survey reported that the magnitude of the earthquake was measured 3.0 on the Richter scale. Tremors were also felt in Hasbrouck Heights, a suburb of New Jersey, located about eight miles (13 kilometers) west of Central Park. A resident of Brooklyn Borough of New York reported that mild tremors of the earthquake were felt and there was a slight movement for a few moments.
