Kashmir: After the terror attack (attack) in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, there is a possibility of large scale cancellation of travel bookings in Jammu and Kashmir. Online travel and hotel booking platforms like Cleartrip, MakeMyTrip and EaseMyTrip are working with airlines and hotels to offer passengers free date change and discount on cancellation charges. People in the hotel industry fear that this attack will instill fear in the minds of tourists, which will have a bad effect on the livelihood of people dependent on tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Flight cancellations increased 7 times
On Tuesday, terrorists killed at least 26 people, mostly tourists, and injured many in Baisaran, Pahalgam. Cleartrip’s Manjari Singhal said that according to preliminary data, flight cancellations have increased seven times and forward bookings have decreased by about 40%. A MakeMyTrip spokesperson said that their team is working 24 hours with airline and hotel partners to help passengers with bookings and cancellations.
Companies offering discounts on cancellation charges
Nishant Pitti of EaseMyTrip said that given the current situation in Srinagar, they are ready to provide full assistance to customers traveling to and from Srinagar. They have announced free date change and discount on cancellation charges for travel till April 30 for all bookings made on or before April 22.
Big blow to tourism
Federation of Indian Tourism and Hotel Unions (FAITH) General Secretary Rajiv Mehra said that for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, tourism is not just a source of income, but their identity, heritage and hope. He said that this attack has not only taken the lives of innocent people but has also caused deep sorrow to thousands of families who live on tourism. It will affect everyone associated with tourism, including houseboat owners, hotel owners, guides and artisans. The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) has strongly condemned this terrorist attack. They say that this attack has been carried out to harm tourism in Kashmir and create an atmosphere of fear.
