BJP Leader Suvendu Adhikari Alleges Mamata Banerjee Under Surveillance as Bengal EVM Strong Rooms Monitored Ahead of Results

Politics:Political tensions have intensified in West Bengal ahead of the 2026 election results, as BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari claimed that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is being “kept under surveillance” to prevent any irregularities.

The remarks came after Banerjee spent nearly four hours at an EVM strong room in the Bhabanipur constituency late at night. Adhikari, who is contesting against Banerjee from the same seat, stated that strict monitoring of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and strong rooms is being carried out amid allegations of tampering.

He also shared an image of Banerjee inside the strong room, asserting that authorities are ensuring no undue advantage is taken by any candidate. “Despite efforts, no activity beyond the rules has been allowed,” Adhikari said.

TMC Flags Tampering Concerns

Meanwhile, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has raised serious concerns over alleged irregularities. Banerjee claimed that reports of EVM-related discrepancies surfaced from multiple parts of the state, prompting her visit to the strong room after reviewing CCTV footage.

TMC leaders, including Kunal Ghosh and Shashi Panja, staged protests outside the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra, alleging suspicious activity and claiming that outsiders were seen handling ballot materials.

BJP Dismisses Allegations

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has rejected these claims, accusing TMC of spreading misinformation ahead of the counting process. BJP leader Tapas Roy emphasized that robust security arrangements are in place, including a three-tier system involving state police and central armed forces.

Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal also dismissed the allegations, stating that all EVMs are सुरक्षित and monitored under strict protocols.

Security Tightened Ahead of Counting Day

With counting scheduled for May 4, security has been significantly increased around strong rooms across Kolkata and other districts. The Election Commission has implemented multi-layered security measures, including CCTV surveillance and restricted access zones, to ensure transparency and fairness.

As the political battle between Suvendu Adhikari and Mamata Banerjee intensifies, all eyes are now on the final results, which are expected to shape the future political landscape of the state.
