New Delhi. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the Lakhimpur incident. The hearing of this matter in the court will be held today i.e. on Thursday in the court of the Chief Justice. There is a continuous demand for the action of the Supreme Court regarding the incident of violence on October 3 in Lakhimpur. Eight people lost their lives in the violence during the farmers’ protest in Lakhimpur Kheri. Earlier, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal had said on Wednesday, referring to the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, that the Supreme Court should take suo motu cognizance of the matter. Apart from this, a letter was also written to the Supreme Court on Tuesday requesting for a high-level judicial inquiry under the supervision of the Supreme Court in the matter of this incident of October 3.
Two advocates have written a letter requesting Chief Justice NV Raman to take it as a public interest litigation so that the culprits can be brought to justice. It has also sought a direction to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the police to register an FIR in the matter and punish those allegedly involved in the incident.
In a letter written by advocates Shiv Kumar Tripathi and CS Panda, a court-monitored high-level judicial inquiry has been demanded and the CBI has also been requested to be involved in it in a stipulated time.
