Laos: China is opening the China-Laos rail line. About Rs 44,230 crore has been spent in making it. This 1035 km railway line will open for cargo this week. In view of the corona virus, this track will not open for the common people yet. The 418-km section of the Kunming-Vientiane Railway in Laos will be operated by the Laos-China Railway Company, which holds a 70 percent stake. The remaining 30 percent is owned by the Laotian state company.
167 tunnels have been made in this entire track. With the commissioning of this track, about 8 hours can be saved in the transportation time. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Laos President Thongloun Sisolith will start the route via video conference on December 3.
China is building a link to a possible future network to connect Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia and Singapore via the Kunming–Vientiane Railway. This will give southern China greater access to ports and export markets. Trains can run on this track at a speed of 160 kmph.
Scott Morris of the Center for Global Development in Washington reports that 21 stations have been built in Laos. These stations have been built according to Chinese requirements so that foreign ports can be reached quickly. These stations will connect farmers in rural Laos to the market. According to a report released by the World Bank, it is possible to increase the total revenue of Laos by 21 percent with the start of the China-Laos Railway.
