Opposition to the proposed amendment in the IAS cadre rule

New Delhi: The state governments are continuously opposing the IAS cadre rules proposed by the central government. After West Bengal, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, now Kerala and Tamil Nadu have objected to these rules. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin have written a letter to PM Modi regarding this. In this letter, MK Stalin wrote that the IAS cadre rules proposed by the Center are a direct attack on the policies of the federal structure and the autonomy of the states.

While writing a letter, Pinarayi Vijayan has appealed to the central government to withdraw the changes in the rules. He said that this move of the government would create fear psychosis among the administrative officers and they would find it difficult to implement the policies of the state government.

In fact, citing the reason for the availability of sufficient number of officers of the Indian Administrative Services for appointments in the Center, the Central Government has proposed to amend the rules for the appointment of IAS officers and has sought the response of the states by 25 January. The Center says that the state governments are not sending sufficient number of IAS officers on deputation, due to which the functioning of the central government is getting hampered. It is being told that the government can introduce this amendment during the budget session of Parliament.
It is believed that if this amendment is passed, then in the matter of appointment of IAS and IPS officers in the center, all the powers will go to the central government and for this the center will not need to take the consent of the state government. That’s why West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren have supported this government.
