Islamabad. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is going to increase his cabinet in Pakistan which is facing economic crisis, which will put more burden on the economy. The opposition is criticizing this step of the Prime Minister. PM in his cabinet without any clear criteria? Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to include several special assistants has been criticized. The opposition believes that such a decision is an “insensitive” step when the country is in an economic crisis.
Other leaders, including former senator and lawyer Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and former minister of state and chairman of the Pakistan Investment Board (BOL) Haroon Sharif, have also called for cabinet cuts in the ruling coalition led by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz. Expressing surprise that the government has 85 members in the federal cabinet, Khokhar said the government has shown genuine insensitivity by appointing many more SAPMs at a time when the country is going through one of the worst financial crises in its history.
At the same time, the ruling government claims that the newly appointed SAPM will not put any burden on the government. Khokhar said that the government may say about the new appointments that there is no burden on the exchequer, but at the end of the day they will be given the office and other facilities that come with it. He said, “This show off is just eyewash.” Also former BOL Chairman Haroon Sharif told that when a SAPM gets the status of Minister of State, he is entitled to all the perks and privileges like house or house allowance, car, fuel, servants etc. Therefore, even if the salary is not drawn, these posts cost the government heavily.
Let us tell you that Article 92 of the Constitution of Pakistan states that the number of ministers in the federal cabinet and ministers of state should not exceed 11 percent of the total membership of the parliament. The current cabinet strength of ministers includes 34 federal ministers, seven ministers of state, four advisors and 40 SAPMs. According to these figures, the Pakistani government can make a total of 49 ministers.
