New Delhi. The country is celebrating the nectar festival of independence, but there are still many things that leave the mark of the British Crown and their officials. These also have roads and buildings. Similar roads and buildings still come under the Ministry of Defense in the Cantonment Board, but now soon the streets and buildings named after British officers will be renamed and replaced by the brave soldiers of the Indian Army. Those buildings and roads will be known. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh announced this in a program organized on the occasion of 96th Foundation Day of Defense Status Director ie Directorate General of Defense Estates.
The Defense Minister said that in the 75th anniversary of our independence, there are many roads and buildings in the cantonments named after British officers and soldiers loyal to the British Crown. I would like to suggest that the Ministry of Defense and DGDE should consider that such names should be named after our brave soldiers and builders of modern India and this work should be completed very soon. Since keeping in mind the controversy surrounding the name change, the Defense Minister has not forgotten to say that when I am saying this, I want to make it clear that I am not saying this by tampering with history and motivated by any malice and narrow mindset. .
Along with this, the Defense Minister also instructed that while changing the name, it should also be kept in mind that any British officer has done good work for the people of the country. They should be recognized by the next generation and their names should be kept as before. It is clear from this that the process of renaming roads and buildings can be started in the coming days, because the Defense Minister has asked to complete this work at the earliest. At present, there are 62 Cantonment Boards i.e. Cantonment Board in the country and it is under the Directorate General of Defense Estates. Apart from this, about 18 lakh acres of land of the Ministry of Defense across the country also comes under the Defense Estates Directorate.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also honored different Cantonment Boards for doing good work on the occasion of 96th Foundation Day of Directorate General of Defense Estates. In this, Delhi Cantt was given the Defense Minister’s Award for being the cleanest among all 62 cantonments, while Pune was awarded for the maintenance and medical facilities of the hospital. Kasauli Cantonment was awarded for commendable work in the digital sector. Speaking on the occasion, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also remembered CDS General Bipin Rawat and also shared the conversation related to Defense State. The Defense Minister said that the lack of General Bipin Rawat is being realized. We used to talk about the challenges related to defense assets, but now he is not among us, it is the biggest loss to all of us as well as to the country. The work for which the Department of Defense has been created has to be completed as soon as possible and in this the Defense Estates Department also has to play an important role.
