Delhi: Supreme Court has said a big thing about freebies i.e. free schemes of the governments. Before the Delhi Assembly, the court made a sharp comment on the governments and said that ‘when it comes to giving salaries to the judges, the governments talk of financial constraints and they have money (Money) for free schemes.’ A bench of the Supreme Court, which was hearing the judges’ salary case, made this comment. The bench said that the state has money to distribute freebies, but does not have money to pay the judges’ salary-pension. The bench also mentioned the rapid announcements being made in the Delhi elections and said, ‘Some are talking about giving Rs 2100 and some are talking about giving Rs 2500.’
Expressing disappointment over the attitude of the governments regarding the salary and pension of the district court judges, the Supreme Court pointed to the money being distributed for free by various state governments and said, “You have money for those who do not do any work, and when it comes to the salary and pension of judges, you start citing financial difficulties.”
The Supreme Court heard the petition filed
The All India Judges Association had filed a petition in the Supreme Court in 2015 regarding the salary and retirement benefits of the judges. The case was heard by Justice BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih. It was said in the petition that the judges are not getting their salary on time and they are also not getting the benefit of the benefits received after retirement.
To this, Justice Gavai remarked, “The state has all the money for people who do not do any work. When we talk of financial constraints we should also look at this. As soon as elections come, you announce Ladli Behna and other new schemes in which you have to pay a certain amount. Now in Delhi, some party or the other has announced that if they come to power, they will give Rs 2500.
