Kohima: The situation in India’s northeastern state of Nagaland has turned tense after at least 10 people were killed in firing allegedly by security forces on Saturday evening. The state government on Sunday has banned mobile internet, data services, sending multiple SMS at the same time in the entire area of Mon district.
Nagaland, in a notification issued by the Home Department, said, “There is a possibility of deterioration of law and order after the firing incident in Mon district. Short Message Service (SMS), WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms can be used to spread rumours, fake news and circulate inflammatory texts, pictures, videos etc. may worsen. The above media are banned to reduce the tension in the district.
In a notification issued by Abhijit Sinha, Commissioner, Home Department, Nagaland, it has been said in Nagaland, under Section 5 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, that this notification shall be extended to all service companies in the entire area of Mon district, including mobile internet, data service, bulk SMS. is being banned. This restriction will be applicable with immediate effect till further orders. The notification further states that violation of restrictions will be punished under section 188 of CrPC and relevant sections of the Indian Telegraph Act 1885.
