Geneva: After marathon talks between different nations at the World Trade Organization (WTO) conference, an agreement has been reached on important issues. Sources gave this information to CNN-News 18. Officials said that India presented its point of view on all issues and said that the country has never compromised on its interests.
Officials said that three controversial paragraphs in the ‘Outcome Documents’ now reflect India’s point of view. Sources said that the general paragraphs have been reduced. In this, the trade-related aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) exemption will also extend to raw materials.
At the same time, no mention was found about the suspension of fisheries. It is expected that this will be discussed in the next ministerial meeting to be held in nine months. The status quo has been maintained on the issue of agriculture, officials said.
Talks with India are stuck on the issue of agriculture and fisheries. Because the stand taken by most of the developed economies on this subject was opposed by the developing countries including New Delhi. The status quo also remains on the issue of moratorium on imposition of duty on electronic transmission.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision on the welfare of the poor was told in this conference. This shows that India is moving into a global leadership role. India was at the center of the talks of the World Trade Organization and its stamp was seen on the outcome of every meeting. Instead of being reactive as before, New Delhi spoke outspokenly on all the issues of the WTO negotiations.
India united members for a unanimous agreement on fisheries, health, WTO reforms, digital technology, food and environment. All the countries stood firmly for the interests of MSMEs, farmers and fishermen.
