A local Pakistani official said on Monday that a major border road between Afghanistan and Pakistan has been closed for trade and transit following clashes between security forces from both sides. Abdul Hameed Zahari, deputy commissioner of the city of Chahman, bordering the Afghan district of Spin Boldak, said that a day earlier it was closed after a long exchange of fire between security forces from both sides. Zehri further said that the firing from both the sides continued till late night. He said trade and border crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan were suspended in Chahman.

He said it was due to a “misunderstanding” and the incident was being investigated. Zehri said the conflict started when a man coming from Afghanistan from across the border shot a member of the Pakistani security force, killing him and injuring others. The total number of casualties on both sides was not immediately clear. It is feared that many soldiers of Pakistan Army have been killed in this clash. After the clash, locals and officials said that hundreds of trucks laden with goods were waiting on both sides. According to the report, since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021, there have been several clashes between Taliban fighters and Pakistani security forces, while Afghan terrorists have attacked Pakistani forces several times.
