Yamunanagar. On the occasion of Dussehra in Yamunanagar, Haryana, a major accident was averted during the Ravana Dahan program on Wednesday where the burning effigy of Ravana fell on the people gathered at the venue. Some people have got injuries. While removing wood from the burning effigy of Ravana at Dussehra Ground in Yamunanagar, 70 feet of Ravana fell on people, in which 7 people are reported to have been scorched while some other people have also got injured. The injured have been admitted to the hospital through an ambulance.
An almost burnt effigy is shown falling on the audience. Parts of the structure were also burning. Some people who followed the tradition of removing wood from the effigy have been badly burnt. Some of them got their clothes and hair burnt. The police tried to stop the people, but the excited people came very close to the effigy. The police officer said that three people suffered minor injuries while two people got their heads broken. Three people got burnt due to firecrackers while clothes of two people were burnt. There is no loss of life in this accident.
Giving information, a police spokesman said that some media reports of people getting injured during Ravana Dahan at the Dussehra Ground in Yamunanagar are wrong. The police officers posted on the spot pushed back some people who were trying to approach the effigy. Police was deployed on the spot, no one got hurt. The program ended without any untoward incident, effigy burning at all the places in Yamunanagar. According to Hindu mythology, every year Dussehra is celebrated to commemorate the victory of good over evil as Lord Rama killed Ravana on this day. After two years due to the Kovid-19 pandemic, the festival was celebrated with full enthusiasm across the country by burning the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Meghnath.
