Kathmandu. Nepal’s Rashtriya Swatantra Party has decided to pull out of the newly formed government led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ following reports of growing rift within the ruling coalition. Along with this, many ministers have collectively resigned from the government.
Rabi Lamichhane, the president of the fourth largest party, RSP, who was disqualified by the Supreme Court, held a meeting on Sunday and then decided to walk out of the coalition government. After the meeting, Lamichhane told that all the ministers of his party will submit their resignations to the Prime Minister today itself.
The rift within the ruling coalition began last month when the Supreme Court nullified Lamichhane’s MP post after the court declared his citizenship “invalid”. Lamichhane was also the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs at the time the court gave its verdict. After being removed from the post, Lamichhane held several rounds of meetings with PM Prachanda to demand his reinstatement and threatened to walk out if the demands were not met. Significantly, the RSP led by Lamichhane had won several seats in the November 2022 general elections.
