Dehradun: The state government will give compensation at the market rate to the people affected by land subsidence in Joshimath. This announcement was made by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. He said that all possible help would be provided by the government to the affected people in this hour of grief. Appealing to the people not to pay heed to rumors regarding the demolition of landslide-affected houses, the Chief Minister said that no action was being taken in this regard. Dhami said that the landslide affected people of Joshimath municipal area will be given compensation at the market rate and this market rate will be decided in the public interest after taking the suggestions of the stakeholders.
Rs 45 crore released for affected families
He said that a total of Rs 45 crore has been released to three thousand affected families. For the time being, interim assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh per family is being given, out of which an amount of Rs one lakh is being given to them as advance before the preparation of permanent displacement policy and Rs 50 thousand for transportation of goods and immediate needs. This amount has been released to the affected by the Uttarakhand State Disaster Authority. Dhami said that assistance will be given after a complete assessment of the total expenditure in the affected area. The Chief Minister also announced to contribute one month’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to help the families affected by the disaster in Joshimath.
Houses will not be demolished unless very necessary- Dhami
Referring to rumors being spread about the demolition of houses with cracks in the affected area, the Chief Minister appealed to the public not to pay heed to them and said that no action was being taken to demolish the houses. In this regard, he instructed the Chief Secretary that the houses having cracks in the affected area should not be demolished unless it is unavoidable. Instructing the Chief Secretary to talk to the affected families in Joshimath and solve their every problem quickly, he said that all the necessary facilities should be made available to the families who are being shifted to other places for security reasons.
Better arrangements for the displacement of the affected
He said that on the basis of their suggestions for the displacement of the affected, such a better arrangement should be made that it becomes an example for the whole country. In Joshimath, high officials of the state government met the affected people and are engaged in solving their problems. Apart from this, teams of various scientific and disaster management institutes have gathered for geological and other necessary investigations in the affected area of Joshimath. In Joshimath town area, 723 buildings have been identified as landslide affected, out of which 462 people belonging to 131 families have been shifted to temporary relief camps till Wednesday.
