Hit-and-run’ laws(Hit-and-run)

New Delhi: Truck drivers have been on strike for the last two days against the provision of the new penal law on ‘hit-and-run’  (Hit-and-run) accident cases involving motorists, affecting movement across the country. In view of this, on Tuesday the government talked to the representatives of All India Transport Congress.
Important information related to the case:
After discussions with the Home Secretary, the issue of truck drivers seems to be resolved. All India Motor Transport Congress has appealed to the drivers to end the strike and return to work. However, he has said that talks will continue with the government.
AIMTC Core Committee Chairman Bal Malkit said that we have met and discussed with the Home Secretary on the issue of Indian Judicial Code. Now we have no problems, all the issues seem to be resolved.
On the meeting of All India Transport Congress, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said, “We discussed with the representatives of All India Transport Congress today. The government wants to tell that the new laws and provisions have not yet been implemented.”
Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said that we also want to say that before implementing Section 106 (2) of the Indian Judicial Code, the decision will be taken only after consultation with the All India Transport Congress.
This meeting of the Home Secretary with the representatives of All India Transport Congress is being considered very important for ending the strike. The Home Ministry has basically assured consultation before implementing the criminal law, the main demand of the Union.
Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla also said that the main demand of the transport union has been met and there will be consultation with stakeholders before implementation.
He said that the government and transporters have agreed that the transport workers will resume their work immediately, he appeals to the truck drivers to resume work.
If the three-day strike continues or an all India movement starts, then the supply of essential products like vegetables, fruits and milk may also be affected.
The new criminal law under the Indian Judicial Code (BNS) has stringent provisions for jail and fine for ‘hit-and-run’ cases, against which some truck, bus and tanker operators have filed a complaint. A three-day strike was started on Monday.
However, the All India Motor Transport Association has not called for a nationwide strike and its representatives have met Home Ministry officials to express their concerns about BNS. ‘All India Motor Transport Association’ includes different associations of truck operators.
