For the first time on Wednesday, the demand for electricity in Delhi reached 8000 MW. The peak power demand was 8,000 MW at 3:42 pm on Wednesday. This is the highest point till date. Due to power demand at record level, the crisis of power cuts has increased. People are troubled by power cuts these days in some areas of Delhi as well as in some parts of NCR’s Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad.
How much electricity is consumed in Delhi?
In Delhi, the peak power demand had reached 7717 MW at 3.33 pm on Tuesday. This has happened for the first time in the history of Delhi. Earlier, on June 29, 2022, there was a peak power demand of 7695 MW. Delhi’s maximum power demand every day in May 2024 is higher than in May 2023. In the first 20 days of May last year, Delhi’s maximum power demand was 5781 MW. The highest power demand in May 2023 was recorded at 6916 MW on May 23. The maximum power demand in the BRPL area of South and West Delhi was 3250 MW in 2023 and 3389 MW during the summer of 2022. At the same time, the power demand is expected to reach around 3680 MW during the summer of 2024.
Demand will reach 8000 MW
Delhi government minister Atishi said in a media briefing on Wednesday that the maximum power demand in Delhi increases in the months of July and August. In the month of May itself, the power peak has reached 7717. It can be estimated how much this peak can increase in July and August. He told that the demand increases by 20 percent in July and August as compared to the month of May. It is clear from this that this year this demand can go above 8 thousand megawatts.
Power was cut in these areas
There was a 10-hour power cut in some areas of Delhi on Monday. Actually, due to increased demand, there was a fault in the underground line. Due to this, the supply stopped in Delhi Road First and Second Power House. Supply is given to 50 thousand consumers from here. There was power cut in Awas Vikas, Arjun Nagar, Delhi Road, Garh Road, Sikandar Gate, Kothi Gate, Tagasarai, Sarafa Bazaar, Phulgarhi, Moti Colony, Apna Ghar Colony, Phulgarhi, Moti Colony, Kotla, Kabadi Bazaar, Noorbafan and Naya Abadi area.
Continuous power cuts in Ghaziabad
The situation in Ghaziabad is also bad due to power cuts. Here the mercury has crossed 44 degrees. There are power cuts of up to 14 hours in Loni and adjoining areas. The demand for electricity has crossed 1600 MW. More than 20 transformers have blown due to overloading. More than 25 sectors are facing power shortage. There has been a report of fault in the 400 KV substation of Pali in Greater Noida.

There is a power problem in Sectors 11, 12, 19, 20, 22, 27, 31, 34, 40, 41, 42 of Noida. Apart from Sectors 45, 46, 48, 49, 51, 55, 56, 61, 82, 93, 99, 100, 104, 105, 110, 119, 122 and 135, the situation is very bad in villages as well. Greater Noida was till now known as ‘No Power Cut Zone’, here also power cuts of many hours are being seen. People are also taking to the streets in protest against this.
10-12 power cuts in Gurugram
