National News: A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged foreign currency exchange fraud case in Gurugram, where a victim was reportedly cheated of a large amount of foreign currency. Investigators believe the fraud was carried out through a coordinated network that used WhatsApp communication and mobile SIM cards to execute the scheme.
According to police, the arrested suspect is a resident of Hisar, Haryana. During questioning, investigators learned that the mobile number used in the operation was linked to a SIM card registered in another person’s name. The suspect is accused of facilitating the fraud by providing access to the SIM card and sharing OTPs required for account verification and communication.
Police sources stated that the accused allegedly received financial compensation for providing technical assistance to those behind the operation. Authorities are now working to identify additional members of the network and trace the money obtained through the alleged fraud.
The case began when a foreign currency trader was contacted via WhatsApp by individuals claiming to be interested in purchasing a substantial amount of foreign currency. The victim was invited to a commercial location in Gurugram to complete the transaction.
Upon arrival, a person posing as a buyer reportedly took possession of the foreign currency and then left under the pretext of arranging payment. The suspect allegedly failed to return, and subsequent attempts to contact him were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off.
Using digital evidence, technical analysis, and communication records, investigators were able to track the network and arrest one suspect. Police officials say efforts are ongoing to identify other individuals involved and uncover the full extent of the operation.
Authorities have advised the public to exercise caution while conducting high-value financial transactions, especially those involving foreign currency, and to use only authorized and verified channels for such dealings.
