New Delhi: BJP’s Amritsar candidate Taranjit Singh Sandhu is at the forefront in making a new promise. He has promised to bring American Consulate in Amritsar along with Bengaluru. The embassy promise was first talked about by BJP MP Tejashwi Surya. Former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu filed his nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections on Friday. Sandhu, (Sandhu) 61, held a road show before filing his nomination papers, in which External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was accompanying him.
S Jaishankar said, “If we look at India-US relations, they are growing rapidly. Our community is growing there. Today there is a lot of trade between the two countries. So I think in the future here More consulates will open and we will see who takes this matter forward for Amritsar.
S Jaishankar, pointing to Sandhu sitting right next to him, said, “So if you hire the right person… you have to see who is pleading the Amritsar case.”
Former Ambassador to the US, Sandhu has played an important role in opening the Indian Consulate in Seattle. It is the sixth embassy after New York, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta and San Francisco.
Sandhu had joined BJP in March
Sandhu had said, “I have certainly spoken to Ambassador Garcetti, and I know he will recommend it positively. I have also spoken to Dr. Jaishankar. He has also been positive about it. There are data that support it.” Sandhu, who joined BJP in March, had said this in an interview given to WION in April.
Sandhu played an important role in many major deals between the two countries during his tenure as India’s ambassador to the US. This also included a deal with American giant GE to manufacture fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force.
Tejaswi Surya’s promise in Bengaluru
Tejasvi Surya wrote in a post on April 9 that, “There has been a long-standing demand for a US Consulate in Bengaluru since the early 2000s. Many residents of Bengaluru travel to Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata or Hyderabad.” , Spending Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000 and 2-3 days, it was one of my top priorities to get a US Consulate in a city like Bengaluru. “This must be achieved, and I am happy to fulfill this promise within my first term.”
