ED recovered around 20 crores from the residential premises of the minister’s close aide

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials probing recruitment irregularities in Tollygunge West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) and West Bengal Board of Elementary Education (WBBPE) have arrested former state education minister and Trinamool Congress general secretary Partha Chatterjee’s close aide Arpita Mukherjee. A huge amount of cash and several mobile phones have been recovered from the house. Partha Chatterjee is currently the Minister of Commerce and Industry in West Bengal.

The cash seized from the residence of Arpita Mukherjee, considered close to Chatterjee, is around Rs 20 crore. The ED has also recovered 20 mobile phones from Mukherjee’s luxurious residence in the Diamond City complex in Tollygunge. Officials believe that these mobile phones will provide important links for teacher recruitment scam in WBSSC and WBBPE.

The ED has also issued a statement to a section of the media claiming that it is conducting search operations at various places in connection with the teacher recruitment scam, during which a huge amount of cash was seized. ED officials called some bank officials for counting purposes, who arrived at Mukherjee’s residence with currency counting machines.

ED sources said Mukherjee’s residence was not in the initial list of 13 places where the agency was conducting raids since Friday morning. However, Mukherjee’s name cropped up during the raid, following which the ED along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel reached his residence and launched a search and seizure operation.
